Oriana sits on Mott Street in NoLita and does the thing that is genuinely hard: a short, seasonal New American menu executed consistently in a small room with no gimmick to fall back on. The pastas are made in-house and change often, the fish is handled carefully, and the bar mixes a proper martini. The design is warm and low-lit without being self-consciously retro. It is a recent opening that has settled quickly into the neighborhood's rotation, which in NoLita — where restaurants open and close on a short cycle — is the meaningful signal.
