Victor Villa started selling tacos out of his mother's front yard in Highland Park and now holds a Michelin Bib Gourmand for doing essentially the same thing at scale. The signature is the queso taco: a handmade blue corn tortilla laid onto a griddle of melting cheese until the cheese crisps into a lace skirt, then piled with mesquite-grilled meat and a mound of fresh toppings that makes the thing genuinely difficult to eat standing up. It is a lot of taco for very little money. The vegan options are not an afterthought, the salsas are made in-house and worth working through, and the line on a Saturday evening tells you everything about what this place means to the neighborhood.
