Astoria's Greek seafood standard on Ditmars — grilled octopus, whole fish, and a line down the block
Taverna Kyclades has been the default answer for Greek seafood in Astoria for so long that the line outside on a Saturday is basically part of the streetscape. The octopus is charred over coals until the outside crisps and the inside stays tender, which is harder than the number of restaurants attempting it suggests. Whole fish is priced by the pound, filleted at the table, and dressed with nothing more than lemon, oil, and oregano. The dining room is bright and packed and the service is brisk without being unkind. They bring dessert at the end whether or not you asked, which after that much fish is a slightly aggressive act of generosity.
Taverna Kyclades is astoria's Greek seafood standard on Ditmars — grilled octopus, whole fish, and a line down the block. Regulars order grilled octopus and whole grilled branzino.
