About Rule of Thirds

Rule of Thirds occupies the former A/D/O by MINI building on Banker Street — a collaboration between the Sunday Hospitality team and Okonomi's JT Vuong and George Padilla — and it runs on mottainai, the Japanese idea of wasting nothing. The food is izakaya and Japanese home cooking rather than anything precious: karaage with ginger soy and tartar, chicken meatball and lamb yakitori off the grill, a very large crisp tonkatsu, an almond miso soup. The soufflé pancake with honey maple butter is the dessert people photograph. What actually sets it apart is the back garden, one of the better outdoor rooms in Brooklyn and the reason to come between May and October. Good for a group, and it stays comfortable when it's loud.
