The tissue-thin vodka pie that defined a decade of NoLita — Staten Island recipe, Mulberry Street room
AJ Sclafani brought his family's Staten Island pizzeria recipe to Mulberry Street and produced, more or less by accident, one of the defining New York pizzas of the last fifteen years. The crust is astonishingly thin — closer to a cracker than to Neapolitan dough — and holds up under the vodka sauce that made the tie-dye pie a fixture of everyone's camera roll. There is a full Italian-American menu beyond the pizza and it is better than it needs to be. The room is dark, narrow, and permanently at capacity. Book ahead or accept that you are eating at the bar, which is not a downgrade.
