Scott Tacinelli and Angie Rito opened Don Angie in 2017 with an Italian-American menu that honors the tradition while remaking every dish with genuine invention. The pinwheel lasagna — pasta sheets rolled with meat and cheese into tight cylinders, sliced and baked — is the dish that has defined the restaurant's identity: it looks like nothing else and tastes like everything that's right about red-sauce Italian. The helical caesar is the salad version of the same creative intelligence: romaine leaves shaped into a coil, dressed precisely, and somehow more satisfying than a standard preparation. The braciole is the old standard done with the same seriousness. Don Angie is one of the best arguments for Italian-American food as a serious culinary tradition.
