The 1915 MacDougal Street caffè voted the world’s best bar — negronis, crudo and Italian small plates, all day
Dante has stood on MacDougal Street since 1915, first as Caffè Dante and now as the bar that The World’s 50 Best named the best on the planet in 2019. It has stayed a neighbourhood café rather than becoming a destination cocktail temple: it opens in the morning, serves all day, and puts sidewalk tables out whenever the weather allows. The drinks list runs a full page of negronis plus a deep aperitivi section, and the 3-to-5 Negroni Session keeps them at ten dollars. The food is not an afterthought — hamachi crudo with pineapple and jalapeño, a vongole spaghetti built on clam and chicken broth, pappardelle with wild boar ragù, and flatbreads meant for sharing over a second round.
Dante is the 1915 MacDougal Street caffè voted the world’s best bar — negronis, crudo and Italian small plates, all day. Regulars order hamachi crudo and spaghetti alle vongole.
Dante is priced at $$$ — approx. $40–$75 per person.
