James Kent's Michelin-starred room at the base of 70 Pine — the restaurant that gave FiDi a reason to stay after work
Crown Shy opened in 2019 in the art deco lobby of 70 Pine Street and effectively created the modern Financial District dining scene, which until then had consisted of steakhouses and expense accounts. The late James Kent built a menu that is technically serious without being formal — gruyère fritters that arrive first at nearly every table, a roast chicken worth ordering for four, pastas that rotate with what is available. The room is enormous, high-ceilinged, and handsome in a way that only a 1930s office lobby can be. It earned a Michelin star in 2020 and has held it. Saga, the tasting-menu restaurant, is 63 floors up in the same building.
