Greenpoint bistro with the thick, lacy-edged pancakes that ruined every other brunch in Brooklyn
Aidan O'Neal and Jake Leiber's corner bistro in Greenpoint became a destination almost entirely because of the pancakes, which are thick, cooked in an unreasonable quantity of butter until the edges go lacy and brown, and served in a stack of two that defeats most people. That is a strange thing to build a reputation on, and the rest of the menu is quietly better than the reputation suggests — a serious burger, fish handled with confidence, vegetables that get real attention. The room is small, wood-lined, and calm at dinner in a way it never is at brunch. Go on a weeknight and you will find the actual restaurant.
