About Ryla

Chef Ray Hayashi and his partner Cynthia Hetlinger built Ryla in a small Hermosa Beach storefront and produced one of the most distinctive menus in the entire South Bay: Japanese technique meeting Taiwanese home cooking, filtered through years of experience and a genuine personal story. The Michelin recognition arrived because the food earns it — not through flash or spectacle, but through dishes like the miso-glazed halibut and the Japanese pancake brunch format that has its own following. Ryla proves the best cooking in the LA metro area doesn't require a WeHo address.
