Burbank's oldest restaurant — a horseshoe counter, one dish done since 1946, and nothing else required
Chili John's opened on Burbank Boulevard in 1946 as the California outpost of a Green Bay original, and it is now the oldest continuously operating restaurant in Burbank. You sit at a horseshoe counter, you order chili — beef, chicken, or vegetarian, plain or over spaghetti — and the beans arrive on the side because that is how it has always been done. The chili itself is fine-ground and heavily spiced in a style that predates every regional chili argument currently being had online. A taproom was added next door, which is the only concession to the last several decades. Everything else is exactly as it was.
Chili John's is burbank's oldest restaurant — a horseshoe counter, one dish done since 1946, and nothing else required. Regulars order chili over spaghetti and chili with beans on the side.
