Psychic Wines' Chinatown bar — a daily-rotating natural wine list where nothing by the glass crosses $15
Cafe Triste sits on a stretch of North Broadway that has quietly become the most interesting drinking block in Los Angeles, and it is run by the people behind Psychic Wines, which explains the list. Wines by the glass change daily and lean natural without being doctrinaire — French pét-nats, Austrian whites, juicy reds out of Australia — and none of them is priced above $15, which is close to unheard of for a room this good-looking. The food is a short list of things that go with wine rather than a menu: fresh cheese, a country terrine, cured hams, whatever snack the kitchen has decided on that week. Seating is tight and there are no reservations, so come at 5 when the doors open or come late and wait for a spot at the bar.
