Arthur Avenue pizzeria and trattoria named for the Salerno area code — wood-fired pies and a painted piazza wall
Zero Otto Nove takes its name from the area code for Salerno, which tells you where Roberto Paciullo's second Arthur Avenue restaurant is looking. The dining room is built around a painted trompe-l'œil of an Italian piazza that should be too much and somehow settles in. The wood oven turns out pizza that is genuinely good by New York standards rather than by Bronx-Italian standards — the Riccardo, with butternut squash purée, smoked mozzarella, and pancetta, is the one to order. There is a full trattoria menu behind the pizza and it holds up. It is a more relaxed, less ceremonial room than Roberto's up the street, and it is meant to be.
