East Village pasticceria since 1894 — cannoli, cheesecake, and a pastry case under pressed tin
Veniero's opened on East 11th Street in 1894 and has passed through the same family ever since, which is roughly 130 years of making cannoli in the same room. The pastry case runs the length of the shop under a pressed tin ceiling and stained glass, and it is genuinely difficult to choose from — cannoli filled to order, ricotta cheesecake, sfogliatella, rainbow cookies stacked in trays. There is a cafe area in the back where you can sit with an espresso and something from the case, which is the correct way to do it. It stays open late, and on a cold night in the East Village that has saved more than one evening.
