Takumen sits in Hunters Point and runs as both a ramen shop and a proper izakaya, which is a more useful combination than it sounds — you can eat a bowl of noodles quickly at lunch or build a long evening out of small plates and sake. The tonkotsu broth is rich and properly emulsified, the karaage is fried well, and the small-plate menu covers enough ground to keep a table busy. The sake program is more thoughtful than the casual room implies. There is patio seating that gets heavy use in warm months. It is one of Long Island City's more dependable evenings.
