Arthur Avenue's most serious kitchen — Roberto Paciullo's Salerno cooking, specials recited rather than printed
Roberto Paciullo came from Salerno and opened on Crescent Avenue just off Arthur Avenue, and for anyone who takes the Bronx's Little Italy seriously this is the kitchen that separates the neighborhood from its own tourist reputation. The printed menu is almost beside the point; the specials are recited at the table at length and are where the cooking actually lives. The pastas are made in-house, the portions are Southern Italian in scale, and the wine list is better than the room suggests. Arthur Avenue has plenty of places trading on nostalgia. This one is trading on the food.
