NYC's only Michelin-starred Mexican restaurant — Greenpoint wood-fire kitchen with tuna tostadas, lamb barbacoa, and frozen margaritas that set the bar
Oxomoco holds the only Michelin star awarded to a Mexican restaurant in New York City. Chef Justin Bazdarich's open wood-fire kitchen in the middle of the Greenpoint dining room gives the white-walled space an energy — you can smell the coals, watch the char on the tortillas — and the menu follows the fire. Tuna tostadas with salsa macha and avocado are the right first order; the lamb barbacoa tacos and grilled wagyu bavette make the case that Mexican cooking at its best has nothing to apologize for. The frozen margaritas are unexpectedly serious. Oxomoco feels like a destination restaurant that happened to end up in a Brooklyn neighborhood.
