About Nom Wah Tea Parlor

Nom Wah opened on the bend of Doyers Street in 1920 and is the oldest continuously operating restaurant in Manhattan's Chinatown, which is a fact worth knowing but not the reason to go. Wilson Tang took over from his uncle in 2010 and kept the tin ceiling, the red booths, and the counter stools while quietly raising the standard of the kitchen. Dim sum is ordered off a paper checklist rather than a cart, and everything is made to order — the har gow arrive hot with the wrapper still translucent, and the original egg roll is closer to a rolled omelet than the thing that word usually means. Doyers Street itself, a sharp dogleg with a long and violent history, is part of the visit.
