About Masalawala & Sons

Masalawala & Sons is the Park Slope restaurant from the group behind Dhamaka and Semma, and it does Bengali cooking specifically — Kolkata home food rather than the pan-North-Indian menu that most American Indian restaurants default to. That means mustard-heavy fish preparations, slow-cooked mutton, luchi, and a level of spicing that has not been adjusted downward. The room is bright and comfortable and the service is warm. It is the best Bengali food in the city and one of the strongest arguments that New York's Indian restaurant scene has genuinely changed in the last five years.
