Patsy Grimaldi's return to Old Fulton Street — coal-oven pies under the Brooklyn Bridge, minus the tourist line next door
Patsy Grimaldi sold his pizzeria, retired, watched the buyer move it and keep his name, and then in 2012 opened Juliana's in the original space next door — named after his mother. The situation is petty in the most enjoyable way, and the pizza settles the argument. Coal-fired, thin, blistered, and topped with restraint, the Margherita is as good as any in the city and the No. 1 with scamorza and pancetta is the order for people who want to see the oven work. The tourist line still forms next door under the old sign. Walk past it. The room here is plain and the pies come out faster.
