The St. Marks Moroccan brunch that the East Village organized its weekends around for forty years
Rivka Orlin opened Mogador on St. Marks Place in 1983, and for the East Village it has functioned less as a restaurant than as a fixed point. The Moroccan eggs — poached in spiced tomato with merguez, served with a pile of pita — are the brunch order that people have been making for decades, and the tagines at dinner are cooked with the same lack of urgency. The sidewalk tables are the best seats when the weather allows. Waiting for a table here on a Sunday is an experience most of the neighborhood has had at least once, and the fact that people keep doing it says more than a review can.
Café Mogador is the St. Marks Moroccan brunch that the East Village organized its weekends around for forty years. Regulars order moroccan eggs and chicken tagine with olives and preserved lemon.
Café Mogador is priced at $$ — approx. $20–$40 per person.
