Trinidadian doubles on Fulton Street — a few dollars, served fast, and named essential by nearly everyone
A&A makes doubles — two pieces of fried bara bread wrapped around curried chickpeas, dressed with tamarind and pepper sauce — and does it better than almost anyone in the city. You order at a counter on Fulton Street, specify how much pepper you want, and eat standing up or walking. They cost a few dollars. The chickpeas are properly stewed and the bara is fried soft rather than crisp, which is correct. It sells out, so the afternoon is not a safe bet. It has appeared on Eater's essential list and remains one of the best cheap things to eat in Brooklyn.
